Lady Gaga is set to take over the leading role from Beyonce while Jay-Z's wife is said to demand too high fee.

Lady Gaga has been caught casting for the leading role of Warner Bros' remake project of A Star Is Born where she and Bradley Cooper are on his motorcycle riding on the street. The casting scene impressed the filmmakers, therefore the singer/actress is in talks to play the female lead in this musical project. Bradley Cooper plays the male lead and directs the film.

Cooper’s remake, which marks his directorial debut, was to have initially been filmed by his American Sniper director, Clint Eastwood, with Beyoncé in the lead. Eastwood left the project in 2011 to make Jersey Boys. Beyoncé allegedly followed suit in March, after Cooper and Warner Bros balked at her asking fee. Deadline reports that the film will be made for around $30m, a relatively low budget by today’s studio standards.

This will be the first time Lady Gaga plays a leading role, after plenty of small appearances in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Machete Kills and Muppets Most Wanted. The new project will welcome her return to the big screen after her shocking role as a vampire that won her an Golden Globe in American Horror Story.

This new version of A Star Is Born has been kicking around Hollywood for half a decade, though this is apparently the closest it's ever been to entering production. The movie originally revolved around a core trio of Beyoncé, Russell Crowe, and director Clint Eastwood, though everyone from Will Smith to Leonardo DiCaprio was rumored for the lead male role. When Eastwood took on other projects and Beyoncé dropped out, he handed the reins to Cooper, another rumored male star; Beyoncé tiptoed around the movie again before Cooper confirmed she wasn't involved late last year.

This is the remake of the classic film of the same name released in 1937, telling the story of Hollywood actor Norman Maine, a celebrity whose star is on the wane. But when he meets aspiring actress Esther Blodgett, he is inspired to help her, and soon the two appear in a musical together. Now known as Vicki Lester, she marries Norman and finds herself in demand, while his reputation continues to decline, resulting in heavy bouts of drinking. Eventually, Vicki must choose between moving forward with her career and attempting to save her husband.

The original film brought fame to Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. In the two remakes of 1954 and 1976, Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand played the female lead respectively. The two actresses also earned their reputation thanks to the role.

The version costarring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga is the fourth remake.
