Don't Breathe 2 Is Still In The Works, Confirms Director Fede Alvarez

Don't Breathe 2 is still very much coming to scare the shit out of us.

It was announced back in November that a sequel to Don’t Breathe was on the menu, which was not surprising tthanks to the excellent success at the box office. At the time, Alvarez even said that he was potentially returning to the director’s chair. But six months have passed since we last heard a peep about a Don’t Breathe sequel, not to mention director Fede Alvarez has signed up for both the Labyrinth sequel and The Girl in the Spider's Web, which has led us to wonder if it’s still happening.

However, Alvarez has put our minds at ease, though, in one short and sweet Twitter reply. "Please tell me there's a Don't Breathe 2 coming," a fan asked, with the director replying: "There is."

Speaking to IGN in November, the director let slip that it will focus on Stephen Lang's terrifying villain, the Blind Man. "The challenge obviously is we just don't want to do the same movie again and just have 2 in it," Alvarez added.

"I'd love to see the Blind Man on the screen do some other things. What's going to happen with him in his life?"

Producer Sam Raimi added, “It’s only the greatest idea for a sequel I’ve ever heard. I’m not kidding.”

Don't Breathe grossed $89.2 million in North America and $67.6 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $156.8 million, against a production budget of $9.9 million. Due to its low production budget, the film became a sleeper hit and was considered a large financial success, with a net profit of $59.1 million, when factoring together all expenses and revenues. Directed by Fede Álvarez and written by Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues, the film stars Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto, and Stephen Lang, and focuses on three friends who get trapped inside a blind man's house while breaking into it.
